/> Ok so I’m going into 5th year (just finished TY) and I’m starting to think about the leaving cert, college and beyond. Up until a week ago I had no clue on what I want to be but I since researched and decided I’d love to be an actuary because I love maths and it sounds like a fun job I’d enjoy (most people would disagree). Anyway I just have a few questions!

1. The course is currently 540 points which is alot. I did quite well in the JC without study so I was wondering would I be able achieve 540 points with alot of study? (JC results below)
2. Would I benefit from Yeats in Galway?
3. I am still unsure about which business subject I want to do. I signed up for Accountancy but want to change. Which is easier (I know that should’nt make me pick a subject but still) between Business and Economics?
4. I am thinking of doing Applied Maths after school… Should I take on an extra subject?

My LC subjects are:
Maths, English, Irish, French, Physics, History and 1 business. (all honours)

My JC results were:
B=Science, Business, Religion, History, French, Irish* and Art
A=Maths, English, Geography and C.S.P.E.

(All honours, but I was very surprised at my Irish result. I had honestly thought I had failed).

Help?!
Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Tilly
maybe you would benefit from yeats but just make sure you can afford it before you ask to go. if you work hard you can achieve anything as you seem to be quite inteligent. just remember to work hard but not to over do it as there is more to life than getting a good job.

Give your answer to this question below!

Legends of the Celtic Harp Brings Age Old Storytelling Through Live Music to New Generation

Irish Art

Brings

Celtic

Generation

Harp

Legends

Live

Music

Storytelling

Through
<guid

These three Celtic harpers have recently assembled to present Legends of the Celtic Harp, a show that resurrects the lost art of storytelling with a musical journey into the heart of this legendary instrument.

Three of the top three Celtic harpers in the world, Patrick Ball, Lisa Lynne and Aryeh Frankfurter, have banded together in a dramatic ensemble that takes audiences on a journey into the myths, magic and fabled history of their captivating instruments.

Patrick Ball is an American master of the Irish Harp and an intriguing spoken word artist. He has recorded nine instrumental and three spoken word albums which have sold well over a half million copies and won national awards in both the musical and spoken word categories.

Patrick has performed his critically acclaimed concerts and solo theatrical productions throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland and the UK, funded in part by awards granted by the California Arts Council and the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Storytelling Association. For more information about Patrick Ball, visit: wwwpatrickballcom.

Lisa Lynne is a multi-instrumentalist and performer who is recognized around the world for her original music featuring her Celtic Harp. She is widely acclaimed for composing memorable and heartwarming melodies on the Windham Hill / Sony Music labels that have repeatedly placed her in the Top 10 and Top 20 on the Billboard New Age Music Charts.

Lisa tours year round, performing at large US festivals and performing art centers. Her work in therapeutic music has gained recognition from NBC, CNN, Fox News Atlanta and numerous newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal. Lisas music is heard throughout the award winning PBS special Alone in the Wilderness, amongst many other soundtracks for commercial television and independent films.

Aryeh Frankfurter is a renowned Celtic Harper and world traveling multi-instrumentalist, who went from virtuosic progressive rock violin to intricate Swedish folk and Celtic music. Aryeh began with the Classical violin at the age of three. His early studies and successes led him to explore various ethnic and international musical genres.

Aryeh taught himself to play a variety of instruments bowed and plucked and most recently the rarely seen Swedish Nyckelharpa. His uncommon approach to the Celtic Harp and Folk Harp repertoire and his numerous critically and commercially successful albums have earned him credit as a musician and recording and performance artist of extraordinary talents and abilities. For more information about Aryeh Frankfurter, visit: wwwLionharpcom.

One thousand years ago, Irish musicians played magnificent harps strung with solid brass. Patrick Ball is one of the rare harpers that plays in this ancient tradition, said Lisa Lynne. The wire-strung harp is played with fingernails to bring out that crystalline, yet deeply resonant quality that the kings and chieftains of the times enjoyed. The sound of the harps was the sound of Ireland. Legends of the Celtic Harp features both wire strung and the more modern nylon strung harps along with other rarely seen instrumentation from early times. What better city in the world for college students to come to in order to study Liberal Arts?

That is to say, language and its allied fields, such as literature and linguistics, film, theatre, radio, journalism, television and video as well as the fine arts that include music and dance, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, architecture, and design.

New York City boasts over a dozen private universities in addition to branches of the State University of New York and the 21 – campus City University of New York. International students are invited to apply to all of these schools. Indeed, the student populations of these campuses reflect the international quality of life in the City at large.

If you are interested in the Fine Arts, you will find programs in which you can study art history, as well as painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture, often with professional artists and designers whose work is acknowledged here around the world. Not only will you be able to create your own works in a studio space, but you will have as your resource and inspiration the art housed in the dozens of museums and galleries that have made New York the art centre of the world.

If it is the world of stage drama or cinema that interests you, you can find academic programs that offer courses in acting, screen-writing, stage directing, film directing, cinematography, animated film, set design, and video production. Get “hands-on” experience with a camera or stage crew while studying with teachers who are also professional actors, writers and directors. The resources in New York City for drama and film students are legion: the dozens of theatres on and off Broadway, and also the retrospective showing and film archives at museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of the Moving Image.

Journalism students will find courses in news reporting and writing, news editing, newspaper production, and broadcast journalism. Those interested in other aspects of television will find courses in media systems and telecommunications. As a resource they will find many television studios to visit as well the Museum of Broadcasting.

Students of music and dance will likewise find themselves with a wide variety of opportunities. The City’s colleges and universities offer courses in music history, ethnomusicology, music theory, harmony, and counterpoint, music therapy, techniques of conventional composition as well as composition for jazz and electronic music, musical performance art and conducting, computer techniques for music research.

Students of dance can find courses in: ballet, jazz, modern dance, dance therapy, theatre-dance, improvisation and choreography. New York, of course, is home to highly acclaimed dance companies from the New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre Alvin Ailey Dance Company to the dozens of small companies that perform here throughout the year.

New York is also the ideal place for students interested in Ethnic Studies. Colleges and universities here offer programs that explore the languages and cultures of peoples who have settled in New York and made it their home while synthesizing the traditions of their lands of origin with those of American society. Here one finds programs in: African-American Studies, a field that surveys the history and culture of African, Afro-American, and Afro-Caribbean peoples, Irish Studies in which you can learn Irish as well as examine the social, religious, and political factors that have made this ethnic group an important one in New York from the colonial period to the present, in Italian-American Studies which draws on the fields of history, literature, art, music, sociology, and political science to give a holistic view of Italian-Americans, in Jewish Studies where you can gain an understanding of the history, politics, folklore, languages and literature of the Jewish people.

Finally it should be said that a year of living fully in New York City is the ultimate experience of the Liberal Arts. With so many concerts, plays, films, art exhibitions, and ethnic festivals to enjoy, it is difficult not to be immersed in the languages and arts of the world.

article source:http://www.intstudy.com/articles/saap5a02.htm

For complete details about Laura Nagle

What Flower Tattoos Mean

Flower tattoos are loved by women, and as more and more women do tattoos, more and more of them settle on flower ones. There are a lot of designs with flowers, and they come in different shapes and sizes. As the designs are different, the meanings of the flowers are also different.

Let’s face it flowers are beautiful, and most that I know have a beautiful aroma that gets one to think about nature and the beauty that is in the world. Flowers trigger images of beauty, and life and vitality and it is almost impossible to look at beautiful flowers and not smile or be reminded just how much it is a blessing to be on this earth.

With colours on the flower tattoos, white is associated with being pure, while a red colour is associated with a burning passion. There are many other different colours and they come in different meanings.

We all know about roses and how they are the flowers of love. They are quite common when it comes to tattoo designs, and even when used outside of tattooing they still are a symbol of love. I love their scent, and it has been interesting to me how they always smell different depending on the colour of the rose.

Other people also opt for the lotus flower to have as their chosen design. This flower comes with a lot of other different meanings, such as goodness, peace, fortune and beauty. If one had a tattoo with a lotus design, it is great to have to carry one with great meanings as one is doing their daily chores, just to be reminded of what it means and what it stands for, and get encouraged in the process.

I also love the acacia flower, and it symbolizes love and friendship. These are also quite important as one cannot go through life without them. Human beings are social beings as they are designed to live in isolation, and this flower is a great representation of that.

In Ireland they have the flower that symbolizes luck, and really who not want luck on their side as they go through their day? Irish men and women who have this tattoo are believed to be lucky, so I guess I would definitely want that tattoo also, just in case it actually works.

Tulip flower is said to be for people who think that they are great lovers. I personally think that I am one, though I doubt some of my exes would think the same way.

For folks who are shy, violet is their flower of choice. There are other flower tattoos such as iris which is said to symbolize wisdom and virtue. Magnolias flowers are said to be for those who love nature, so the flower you choose ill depend on your preference and what you think represents more you.

Flower tattoos are common and the designs are getting more and more popular, just choose the one that you think represents you the best.

Some women love them, other women like me think they are too girly, but which ever one you choose to have is totally up to you.

If you are interested in getting a flower tattoo, go around <a

Along with the wearing of the green, there are many traditions and activities that help to celebrate the life of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. You can help your child experience some Irish lore by preparing foods associated with this feast day.

In her book, Cooking Around the Calendar With Kids — Holiday and Seasonal Food and Fun, Amy Houts includes many foods that are traditionally served to honor the spirit of the Irish. Here is an easy bread recipe that you can make with your child as you talk about the significance of the shamrock* in Irish culture and the meaning behind this well-known Irish phrase, “may the wind always be at your back”*.

Irish Soda Bread

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a cookie sheet.

Children can measure and stir together flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and stir in buttermilk. Dough should form a ball.

On a floured board or cloth, children can knead and shape dough into a round loaf, about 8 inches across. Place dough in the center of the cookie sheet. Score bread dough with a sharp knife; make an X about 1/2-inch deep. Bake for about 40 minutes, until brown. Serve hot.

Yield: 1 loaf

This and other food and fun suggestions can be found in Cooking Around the Calendar With Kids — Holiday and Seasonal Food and Fun. This is a fun book you can read and use with your child all year long.

*Shamrock – three leaf clover used to illustrate the Christian trinity of God the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit but one God.

<br

They have always been regarded as fierce warriors and were regarded as a formidable foe by the Romans. All over Ireland, there are many examples Celtic artwork and crosses. The Celtic people were also renowned for their skills in jewelry, metal, and even weapons as well as artwork. Most Celtic tattoo designs come from Ireland of course where the evidence of Celtic history is strongest. Tattooing is seen as keeping Celtic tradition alive with the famous Celtic cross being one of the most popular Celtic designs.

People from an Irish, Scottish and Welsh descent find a Celtic tattoo to be an expression of the their Celtic ancestry and heritage, as a way of paying tribute to their ancestors and to let others know that they are a Celtic descent. Celtic tattoo designs are notorious difficult to ink and can often take over seven hours.

It is difficult to interpret the meaning behind the many knots patterns found in Celtic tattoos as there is no literal translation. It is thought that the interweaving of the knots expresses the repeated crossing of spiritual and physical elements. The strands and represent life, love, and faith or to symbolize the never ending cycle of dying and rebirth.

Of course you do not have to be of Celtic descent to get a Celtic tattoo. What you need to do now is find a tattoo artist capable enough of doing the tattoo. Celtic tattoo designs are tough for the tattoo artist so you should seek out a tattoo artist who has the appropriate background in Celtic tattoo designs. This is your safest bet that it will be done correctly. What is require from the tattoo artist is an eye for detail and exact line placement and that is a skill that not all tattoo artists are proficient at.

I recommend that if you want to browse thousands of Celtic tattoo designs that you check out the tattoo website featured in this Squidoo lens.
