Question by Icy Gazpacho: The art of spreading Vegemite?
Ok… so foreigners (to Australia) say they don’t like vegemite but fact is they prolly don’t know how to eat it.
So what are your favourite recipes?
Here are mine:
I use a tablespoon of Vegemite in my Spaggetti Bognaise Beef Sauce …. add it when browning the meat.. don’t add salt.
I use lots of melting butter on hot toast.. then lightly scrape (very thinly) the vegemite .. I think this is where people go wrong .. they just use too much… then I put a slice of tomato and cheese on top…. and wash it down with Twinnings Irish Breakfast tea.

haha well being australian i have to say ive never heard or tried any of those. but i also have it on toast and wait for the butter to melt and then spread a thin layer or vegemite. it also tastes REAL good on english muffin bread!
Ohhhhh, I am at work – I could so go a piece of thick cut toast, lightly toasted with the butter melted in and vegemite, thinly – yes, practically just “wave the jar” over the top of the toast – YUMMM, vegemite and cheese is good.
I use it sometimes in my gravy – it makes it really delicious.

Alrighty then – Thin vegemite, slice o tomato and cheese. I’ll let you know when I’ve tracked some down. One of my biggest morning problems is that my kids eat half their breakfasts, then ask for the rest of mine. If I switch off to Vegemite it might just solve that problem.
Love Vegemite or Marmite on hot buttered toast with a runny-yolked poached egg on top. Delishimo!
The idea with Vegemite is a little goes a long way.

I always use vegemite in my soups, stews and stocks. It just makes sense, it adds a good depth of flavour and colour.
Vegemite is good on toast (of course) but it’s also good on biscuits like Vita Weet. Put heaps on and squeeze out the vegemite worms. Only real Aussies can handle the heat of thick vegemite. Scraping is for wusses.
The only thing I’d ever eat with vegemite is cheese. Mmm, butter, vegenmite and cheese vita weets sound good!
I’m positively drooling (Homer Simpson type drool) when you mention the melting butter, hot toast and vegemite. But when you add the rest, it’s positively unbearable.
I am always looking for healthy alternatives for snacks. I have not seen Vegemite at my local grocery store. I guess I may have to go to a real town, heh?
